Disposal not spinning or jammed.

  • Most disposals have a break free allen bolt at the bottom of the unit. You will need a disposal wrech or a 1/4" allen key to fit the connection. Turn the disposal to the off position and place the wrench in the bottom connection for the wrench. Not all disposals have the connection on the bottom. For those who do not have this they do make a tool that inserts in the top of the disposal and wedges against the impeller blades and when turned it breaks the jam loose. If you don't have either tools you can use a wooden broom handle or such to put down the disposal and try to move the impellar blade. Once it has been broken loose push the reset button on the bottom of the unit and try the switch.
  • If you ever replace the disposal and you have a dishwasher be sure to remove the drain plug located inside the dishwasher drain connection.
